Andrea Atzeni: Newmarket Saturday Preview

Silver Samurai – 14:05 Newmarket

I start with one for Marco in the Greys race. The handicapper says he is the best horse in the race, and he’s starting to come back down again now, running off 87. He wouldn’t want too much rain as I think he is best on top of the ground, but I think he has a good chance in a competitive race. It usually depends where the pace is in these big sprints, but they have been finishing up the middle here all summer, so hopefully I can get some cover and he can finish his race off well.

Crocus Time – 15:10 Newmarket

She’s obviously still a maiden and another who probably wouldn’t want much rain, but she has been consistent so far and should find things easier now running in a nursery. She was a bit unlucky at Windsor the time before last, and the form of her second start, over course and distance, has worked out well, so hopefully she is fairly handicapped to go close in this.

Greysful Storm – 15:45 Newmarket

She ran well the last time at Ascot and has gone up another 2lbs for that but is now stepping up another 2 furlongs in trip here. Her sire was a St. Leger winner, and, out of a Montjeu mare, I think she will improve for the extra distance. This is obviously a competitive race and she’s in against older, experienced horses for the first time. Ralph Beckett’s filly Mistressofillusion is probably improving also, and the stable are flying but hopefully my filly will improve again too.

Bailar Contigo – 16:20 Newmarket

Hopefully she is still improving because the handicapper has put her up another 4lbs from last time when she was unlucky not to win. This is probably a better race, but she is getting weight from the field and goes on any ground. In fact any rain would probably help her chance.

Thawg – 16:55 Newmarket

I finish with another for Marco in the last and the big thing with her is she is stepping back up to a mile again. Being by Golden Horn she probably needs further than 7f and she got caught a bit at Newcastle after a break the last time. She finished off her race well over this trip when I won on her at Brighton, so I think she’s got a very good chance here.

Have a great weekend,

Andrea
